MEMBER NEWS: Glasgow Council on Alcohol becomes Murray’s Initiative in major rebrand

One of Scotland’s longest-established counselling charities has announced a major rebrand, with Glasgow Council on Alcohol (GCA) becoming Murray’s Initiative after 60 years of service.

The new brand was unveiled on Thursday, 6 November at the charity’s 60th Anniversary Celebration, held at Glasgow City Chambers.

The change marks a new chapter for the organisation as it continues to deliver free, confidential counselling and wellbeing support to individuals, families and communities across Glasgow and beyond. The new name honours the charity’s founder, Sir Alistair Murray, and reflects the organisation’s ongoing evolution.

Importantly, all services, programmes, staff and contact details remain unchanged. tThe rebrand represents a change in identity rather than in practice.

The new identity has been shaped through an inclusive process involving staff, counsellors, volunteers, trustees and leadership, ensuring it reflects the lived experience of both those delivering services and those who use them.

In the context of an increasingly challenging funding environment for the third sector, the rebrand is also intended to support long-term sustainability.

Chief executive Lesley Ross said: “Like many charities, we know that to continue meeting the needs of our communities, we must continually evolve. That means diversifying our income, developing new partnerships and creating opportunities for growth that will protect and strengthen our support and advocacy services for years to come.”

As Murray’s Initiative, the organisation remains committed to its core mission of supporting healthier, more fulfilling lives, building on six decades of experience while preparing for the challenges ahead.
